I finally handled a Tarantula!!! YEHAW!!!

Postby TheRoachRanch on Thu Oct 22, 2009 6:35 pm

I am TOTALLY stoked right now so bear w/ me! I know this is common practice for most of you guys BUT I finally overcame my fear and handled a dam god Tarantula! YEHAW! I just got outta my buds store from dropping off an order, AND decided to hold a Rosey (fearing for my life LOL!)... Yeah so what right, a small bite and I can say I tried! Either way, he was a peach and let me pick him up, handle him, AND get the closest look at a T that I ever have (would have been well worth the hairing OR bite if he decided to do so). I was hooked! Getting such an intimate look at a large spider was a priveledge! From that point my buddy figured I'm out of my mind and let me clean a Brazlian White Knee. NOW a couple weeks ago I would have tried to handle this skiddish creature but thanks to all of you and your information.... I "cupped" him and cleaned up his cage! I was pretty psyched! He didn't hair me or nothing! But good god was he quick... or so I thought... Next up, and I swear I'm not joking, my buddy was not comfortable gathering up a 6-8" Bird Eater. Not sure what the exact size was but this spider was formedible! WOW! Biggest darn spider I've seen. I'll get a pic on my BBerry tomorrow and see if I can post it. Don't count out that I love wildlife so much I'm dumb enough to handle this sucker (inside it's cage so it doesn't get hurt) to show the size. Either way, male or female it was a peach. I tapped it on the rump and boom, it went into it's BIG cup. We cleaned it out, released it and from what I saw it was happy as a clam!

I've overcome a HUGE fear tonight by handling a T'. and I'm diggin' Tarantulas people! I swear to you.... I'm diggin' Tarantulas! What great animals! YEAH! I'm totally ready to jump into this hobby and learn about the species, AND oneday hopefully have enough knowledge to teach people who don't understand Tarantulas just like me! Oh YEAH!

Thanks guys! I must say that I'm very interested in this hobby now that I know that I can maneuver these things around to do routine maintainence and what not. BTW I wasn't saying that I'm going to HOLD the Goliath he has, but if the thing ever got out and put itself in danger I wouldn't think twice now of carefully scooping it up. Now there's 300 species avaiable of the 900 in the wild.... That means I'm gonna need 300 cages.... And a bigger room... Got it!

lol nice Ive held T;s since I was like 13.... :overheadclap:
shame 1st 2 pinktoes died..... because the MORON at the pet store didnt tel me how to care for them...
or even they needed humidity. potting soil. ....Im a Pro now anyways. :D Those days are over.
All my current T's (most of them) were raised from slings. they did fine.

A year after they died I purchased a rose hair. lol. Just didnt feel right with no pet spider.
