Hello my name is Jessy and I am new to this forum. Thanks to Robc for inviting me here.
This is the story of how I became addicted to T's. Its was my step-sons 6th birthday and he wanted a tarantula, his mom said no way and my husband hates spiders! lol he's such a weenie! So I stepped up and said I would get one for him and take care of it, so we went down to the petstore (not knowing a lick about Ts) and bought up this cute little G.rosea. My son had named her Peter Parker (like spiderman) before we learned it was a female. So not having any knowledge of these creatures naturally I looked it up online, and thats where I found Robc's youtube channel. Wow what a load of info you can get from that guy! After watching nearly every T video on youtube, I found myself in NEED of my own T. Maybe something a little more exotic I thought. I didn't feel that I was ready for any pokies or OBTs or online ordering and that whole unpacking thing, lol, so I called around to all the local store to see if any had anything a little different, everything in town only had rosies so I started to called the petshops in the surrounding cities, I called one that said they had a mexican red rump, and I thought hummm perfect they're supposed to be somewhat docile just look out for those hairs! This was about 65 miles away so I paid for the T w my c/c and told them I would be there tomorrow. So it was the longest 24 hours ever I was so excited! I got in my car the next day after work and when I got to the perstore it was the ghettoest (if thats even a word) petshop I've ever been to, looked like a yard sale with pets. The B.vagans was a mess, she had almost no hair left was completely dry and had not even a drop of water 1n the bowl that also housed a peice of sponge (eww). She was very large though she just molted and her molt was 6". When I learned that she too was female I was excited to know that as long as I nursed her back to health she would be around for a while! She is now my largest and most beautiful T in my tiny collection. I have to include that she also is in no way docile at all, she a mean biting machine!
So about 3 weeks later I went to this local shop that usually carried a few different types of Ts (they didn't have any when I found b.vagans) and I was on a mission to get an avic. avic. which they normally have and the guy said he sold it earlier that day, I was crushed lol, so in order to get my T fix (as I like to call it) I bought the only one they had left, it was called a striped knee (so many Ts have striped knees) and they had no scientific name for it,so I bough it anyways! Well this little sucker was fast and it definitly didn't have striped knees! But then again he's only a tiny juvi. After doing alot of research and asking lots of questions, I discovered the he yes a juvi male, was an a.seemanni, and just needs a couple more molts to be mature. I love them all!
Thats how I became the crazy spider lady of my neighborhood! I have on order right now (supposed to be here tomorrow) of a B.smithi sling which I am exstatic about, and a juvi unsexed avic. avic. so that will put my collection at 5 which must not exceed 10 (its this little aggreement I have with my hubby the weenie) so when I get to 10 I'll just have to switch them out every year or so, sell them and buy new ones, just to keep from having T withdraws! lol
Special thanks to Robc for striking up this intrest in me with all his amazing videos!
