Pre-croak DKS or Molting?

Postby robd on Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:49 pm

Hi,

I have a 3 1/2 inch rosehair, unsexed, that has exhibited the main DKS symptom and exhibited it often. Before this morning whenever it felt a virbation it was like it couldn't control it's legs. And even sometimes when I would walk up to it's enclosure without any agitation done to the T, it would be moving it's legs almost uncontrollably.

Then this morning... at like 5 in the morning, I found it on it's back with it's legs flailing and I thought, whoa, it's gonna molt! Fast forward to almost 4 o'clock and it's still just laying there, on it's back, legs flailing. It ocassionally rests and moves it's fangs back and forth. Could it be stuck in it's molt? Can anyone help? Thank you.

If it has DKS, then it's probably not molting, it might be dying.

Try putting it in an ICU and leave it alone for a couple days.

Good luck to your little buddy.

I have a Rosie that acted the same way (minus the back thing) for months. I actually named it tweek because it reminded me of a crack-head. As for the being on it's back it could be molting. Some Ts are a little slower at molting. How is the T now? Pics would be helpful.

DKS= dyskinetic syndrome.

Not much is known about it. It could be bacterial or viral or poisoning. Basically the T is not in very good control of its movements. Think along the lines of Parkinson's disease in people.

They usually have uncontrolled jerky movements, usually made worse with any type of stress. I don't recall having ever read of a T living through it.

Check out youtube for videos of DKS. The movements seem to be pretty universal, although cause and cure have thus far alluded us as hobbiests.
