Hot Glue Gun + Kritter Keeper = ?

I'm going to use a KK on it's side for Christina's new enclosure, and I was thinking I could just hot glue some of the openings shut in the lid to keep substrate from coming out.

Has anyone done this, and if so, how did it turn out?
Alternatively, why is this a horrible idea?

There is a better way to do it. Get some plexi glass and cut a piece to fit in across what will be the new bottom of the KK, glue it in. It will be water proof and make a kind of a dam for the substrate so that if you need to take the lid off the substrate just won't fall out.
We have been doing it for a while and it works well. You also might want to stuff some paper towel in front of the dam between it and the KK lid. I've had kids camp out in that little space and ignore the lovely house I made for them.

Alot of hardware stores have plexiglass here, but I'm not sure which ones you have down there, but go ask at one, they will usually custom cut some for you.

I've hot glued sever KK lids (usually the "bottom" 2" or 3") and aside from being moderately...."unsightly" (I'm not very artsy/craftsy so it tends to look like a spastic kindergartner got let loose with a glue gun) it works very well

plexiglass is a superior option aesthetically but in a pinch hot glue does just as well -- the glue will hold sub and moisture without leaking

excellent. i think john's talked me into getting another tank like what his t is in, though i may change my mind. christina webs, but it's not necessarily in the top so i think she'd be okay. i don't know. the container store is pretty close by so i might hit them up instead, haha.
